Edit: Senator Clinton and Senator McCain have been declared the winners in California. Congratulations to Senator Clinton and McCain on their victories.
That's right folks, it's SUUUUPPPPEEERRRR TUUUUEEESSSDDAAAAYY! The Super Bowl is over and the Giants won, but that's hardly the point. So far, Hilary Clinton has won seven states and Barack Obama has nine. Votes are still being counted, so it's hard to say who has won. California is still up for grabs, as the last time I checked, only one percent of the precincts have been accounted for.
On the Republican side, John McCain leads with six states, with Mike Huckabee following with four and Mitt Romney with three. With the Republicans, it seems pretty clear that John McCain could very well win the Republican ticket. It's harder to say with the Dems right now as there are really only two candidates running at this point. Stay tuned with more updates on SUPER TUESDAY!
But in other news, candidates showed up at UC Davis again for a debate hosted by Fox News. Amazing how they have time to debate while trying to win states. Overall, the debate was fairly well organized, with the exception of some minor technical difficulties. In all honesty, I think the Fox News team would have been fine without the technical doo-dads. During the Democratic debate though, there were many times when Hilary Clinton made comments that were very much bordering on "fighting words." It almost seemed like she was just ready to throw down with Obama and Edwards at any moment. Speaking of Barack Obama, my fellow employees and myself felt that his performance today was mediocre. It was Senator John Edwards who had the best performance today. He remained composed and sure of his answers at all times. It's still odd that Mr. Edwards has very little support.
The Republican debate almost seemed like a practical joke. Congressman Ron Paul and Governor Mike Huckabee's responses ended up being laughfests with Ron Paul's somewhat odd demeanor and methods and Mike Huckabee's constant preaching. If the Davis Enterprise had to back a Republican candidate, it would probably have to be John McCain. But if we needed to give a pity vote, we'd have to go with Ron Paul.
Best luck to the candidates for the rest of SUPER TUESDAY!
